Meet our Staff!
The Staff at Marist Centre is as diverse and varied as the courses offered...
| Brother Chris Poppelwell is the Director of the Centre. He comes to us from East Timor, where he was with the Teachers' College run by the Brothers of the Melbourne Province. Earlier he worked for some years in Tonga, as Principal of the Brothers' Colleges there, and as Director of Catholic Education for the Diocese. He has a Science degree from Victoria University, New Zealand, Diplomas in Teaching and Development Studies, and has experience of teaching in several countries, including American Samoa. Here, apart from Administration, he is teaching Accounting and English. | |

Ioane Leituala is a Marist Centre "Old Boy" and is now an experienced teacher. John is one of two deputy principals in the school and is also Dean of Boys and discipline master. His dedication to the school and to the students shows daily - Ioane is almost always the first to show up at the school and one of the last to leave. At the end of 2005, Ioane graduated as a qualified teacher through the Catholic Education Office special programme for long serving teachers. Ioane is a member of the staff fundraising committee. |

Sefo Ah See is the Welding and Mechanics teacher
and is the
Head of the Engineering Dept. He is also one of two deputy
principals for the school, and is Dean of Boys. Like many of the other staff,
Sefo shows his full commitment to the Centre by working beyond his call of
duty. Sefo is known to always keep the Teacher's Office bright with
his smile. Sefo is a well respected talking chief in his village of
Faala. Sefo is also a member of the staff fundraising committee.
At the end of 2006, Sefo graduated as a qualified teacher through the Catholic Education Office special programme for long serving teachers. |

Br Samisoni Talia comes from Tonga, and
was on our staff up to the end of 2006, and now returns after completing a
Diploma in Agriculture at the University of the South Pacific in Apia. He
is teaching Agriculture among other duties.

Fifita Talivaa attended Ulimasao College from 1983 to 1987. After working in Agriculture for two years, he returned to Ulimasao College for one further year, before joining the Marist Brothers for 5 years. He comes from the village of Sili, where he has been working with Youth Groups and running Sunday School. He teaches Samoan, Maths and Religion at the Centre, and is in charge of the Library. Fifita is Head of the Religion Department. |

Faalava Tuimaseve teaches Woodworking and is also very active in after school activities. He also graduated in 2007 as a qualified teacher through the Catholic Education Office special programme for long serving teachers. He helps with singing and dance practice, and assists with the school's Rugby teams. |

Alipate Kairetu Teburea comes to us originally
from the island of Rabi in Fiji. He is married here in Samoa, and in 2004 was teaching at Don Bosco technical Centre, as well as working with
Kooline Refrigeration as a technician in gas welding. He teaches Maths, English
and Agriculture at the Centre. 2007 is his third year with us. Pate is the head
of the Maths Department.

Peti Sionaia Mose is the sewing option teacher. Peti is well known to staff and students,
as she has two sons at school, and lives right opposite the school gate. Peti was educated at Tuasivi
College, and worked at both the Forestry division and Health Department
before coming to Ulimasao.
In 2008 Peti is the Dean for Girls. |

Masepi Mulivai is another former student of the school. In 2005, she attended the Samoa Polytechnic, where she took Catering and Tourism classes. Since 2006 she has taken on the Tourism and Hospitality classes, in both Second Chance and Youth options. |
| Sera Kei comes to us from Vaitoomuli and is our computer teacher. Sera completed her secondary education, Forms 5, 6 and 7, at Mangere College in Auckland. She furthered her computer studies at Unitec, also in Auckland. Since returning to Samoa, she has spent time working at Samoatel, Lotto Samoa and the SPG Assocation. | |
| Banri Tobo is a JICA volunteer who
started with us in 2007. In fact he is a second generation volunteer as his father was
also a JICA volunteer, but in Tanzania. Like his father, Banri specialises
in Auto Engineering, which he will teach for the two years he is
with us. He comes from the Toyama Prefecture in Japan. Before coming to Samoa he worked as an automobile service engineer for a Honda dealership in Tokyo. Banri is interested in trekking, watching rugby and travelling the world. We are happy to have him working with us. |

Meki is our teacher of Art and Carving, newly qualified from his study. We hope this is the start of a fruitful career in teaching.
|
|
|
Faisiota has rejoined us after a few months in New Zealand, refreshed and ready to give of his best. He is looking after the library, the reading programme, and teaching Physical Education and Samoan. Welcome back, Siota! |

John is our Groundsman, and helps with sports coaching. |
|
|
Anna Maria returns to us after two years of study at NUS and USP. She is helping in the library, to get it set up, and with office work, which she was doing in her earlier time here.
|
|
|
Tupu Misi is the school secretary,
who joined us in September 2006. She comes from the village of Vailoa, but spent some
time working in Apia before returning to Savaii.
