 Aid Projects

At the Centre, many organizations are helping our cause.  With aid projects currently in Farming, Computing, Water/Plumbing, and more, MCSL's aim of "hands-on" education continues.

AusAID Grant, 2008 - A grant of over A$20,000 from AusAID became available at the beginning of 2008 for equipment and training. This is being used to re-equip the Engineering, Woodwork, Welding, and Tourism & Hospitality departments with basic tools and supplies needed, and improve Secretarial services. We are grateful to the Australian Government for this generous assistance, and you will see some of the purchases in the Diary and Pictures pages during the year.

UNDP Organic Garden - The Organic Garden at the Centre is a project funded by the UNDP, to help students learn about proper agricultural methods.  It will help keep the school sustainable, with funds being raised by harvested crops.  The garden has been a great success this year, and will serve as a good model garden for the community.

Sala'ilua Plantation - The 85 acre plantation in Sala'ilua got started in August, 2003.  The land was donated by former brother Siaki, who is now a member of the MCSL staff.  The Centre got off to a quick start, with over 6000 taro and over 2000 Banana trees already planted.  This is the biggest project the Centre is involved with, and plans to provide funds to help the school pay its teachers.  Students who are unable to pay school fees have been allowed to work on the plantation instead, or have their families donate taro or banana plants.  Many students have volunteered to help work on the plantation as well.
