Sacred Heart College Malaga

On Monday September 25, welcomed the Sacred Heart College group to our school. (Sacred Heart College  is a Marist Brothers' School situated in the suburb of Glen Innes in Auckland, New Zealand.) The "malaga" is organised by Brother Marcel  Hall, and with him are two fellow staff members,  Father Steve Berecz and  Mr Rob Wisnewski. The ten Form six students on the malaga are Dayne Addison, George Buckleton, Francis Burke, Liam Fisk, Dylan Kane, Reuben Main, Mat Martin, Jonathon Masoe, Chris Salman, and Eamon Tolhurst.

The scope of the job. this is the roof of the main school building which the group will be painting.
Thursday October 4.  Behold the finished product. Job completed around 11am. 
Rains started at midday, and continued heavily all afternoon.

Tuesday 26/09. Roof preparation work starts. Sanding, brushing, sweeping. Ulimasao students have done some of the work, so this stage is progressing well. Very hot up there today.

Wednesday was rained out. No work. Thursday, a fine hot day. More sanding in progress here. And now applying Rust Guard, George and Dayne are on the job . The roof is now ready for the first coat.

Friday September 29

Saturday September 30. Picnic day at Manase, 
at Regina Beach Fales.
Br Marcel makes a presentation to Mr Gaono Smith, owner of the resort. Gaono is David Smith's grandfather.
The SHC haka is performed for the first time in Samoa at  
Regina Beach Fales, Manase, Savaii.
Tuesday October 3 and great progress being made.

Thursday October 05.  And so all good things come to their inevitable end. This morning the malaga group caught the 8am ferry back to Mulifanua and Apia. Early tomorrow morning they catch their return flight to Auckland. They leave behind a well painted roof, but take with them, I am sure many happy memories of their time on Savaii. It remains for me to offer a big "faafetai tele lava" to Br Marcel, Fr Berecz, Mr Wisnewski and 10 great young men from SHC. We enjoyed hosting you and I need say no more than, "Come again - please!!"
